Jace Marsh- Actor

Jace Marsh started acting at a young age and is known for his kind spirit. He has always poured his heart into every character he played. He has worked on Snapped Notorious, Along Came the Devil and The Verdict. Jace loves to be on set whether it’s in front of the camera or checking out the action going on behind the scenes. He will be filming A Creative Mind this year and can’t wait to be on set with his cast mates who have quickly become friends. When Jace isn’t acting you can usually find him on a baseball field. He plays travel baseball year round. He is also currently working on his own short film script. Jace has a trademark smile- no matter what is going on you can usually find Jace with a huge smile trying to put a positive spin on the situation for everyone!

What got you into acting?

"I have done church plays for as long as I can remember  and have always enjoyed being on stage.  But what really got me interested in acting was an open call for extras for Stranger Things when I was 5.  My mom submitted it for fun and we didn’t think much about it.  I ended up getting the call to be a featured extra on the Halloween episode in season two.  I loved everything about being on set, it just felt like home right away.  After that day I told my parents that I wanted to be an actor and I started taking classes not long after.  Memorizing scripts and taking on characters has always been something that came easy to me."

You will be filming a movie called “A Creative Mind!” What can you say about that?

"This film is directed and written by Jace Dakota.  It is a coming of age film that takes place in the late 60’s and tells the story of a young group of kids at science camp.  Everyone can find a character in this movie that they can relate to.  I play a character named Paul.  This character is so funny and I think the audience is going to love him!  I can’t wait to bring him to life."

What do you enjoy the most as an actor?

"I enjoy getting to step into someone else’s life and play that role.  I love being on set, the energy everybody has is just amazing.  And every new set is a chance to meet new people.  I have made so many great friends on set.   But my all time favorite thing to do as an actor is improv!  Improv gives me the chance to use my creativity and I have to fully commit to my character to do it I have gotten to use my improv skills a few times when I was on set for music videos."

You also play competitive travel baseball! How do you grow as a player?

"I have been playing since I was 3 years old.  I have been playing travel baseball for 3 years.  My favorite position has always been pitching.  People always talk about the physical side of the game, “you need to get a little stronger, you need to get a little faster, you should be able to make any play”.  And don’t get me wrong, you do need to work on the physical side of the game but for me and for a lot of people the best way to grow as a player is to work on the mental side of the game.  You need to have a good attitude even if you strike out or aren’t having the best day.  In baseball, just like in life, a positive attitude can take you a long way."

This past year you had to undergo reconstructive surgery on your arm and go through physical therapy for almost a year to prepare to get back on the field. How do you handle not being on the field?

"I originally went in to see the doctor thinking I had something small wrong, maybe I would have to rest my arm for a week or two.  After several specialists I was told I had to have reconstructive surgery that is not common for kids my age.  I was actually sent to the doctor who treats the Braves players because it was such a rare injury for someone my age. At first it was really hard even though I had the support of my teammates and family.  I was down for a while.  I was invited by my cousin to go to the Forward conference where I gave my life to Jesus.  After finding Jesus I knew everything was going to be okay and that there was a plan for my life.  During my time not being able to throw or bat I was able to help coach third base, which was funny when I was still in my sling!  And I was determined to learn to throw left-handed.  I got good enough using my left hand to be able to warm up players, the left-handed throwing is still a work in progress!"

How did you bounce back as a player after the surgery?

"I had physical therapy 2 times a week for 8 months and my therapists were amazing.  They cheered me on the whole way and felt like family which helped me work through the pain.  At 6 months I was cleared to be allowed to start batting, which meant I was back in the game! My teammates and coaches have always been so supportive of me and they were so excited for me to get to play again.  We got second place in that tournament, it was a good day. The mental side is more difficult than the physical side, there is always the fear of reinjury.  After reassurance from my doctor that it will be almost impossible to hurt my arm again.  From here on out it is just a mental battle. I lean on my faith a lot to keep me going. One of my favorite verses is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.  And I believe he has gotten me this far, and my story isn’t over yet! My arm was very recently cleared to start a pitching program again so that hopefully I will be able to get back out on the pitcher's mound after a year of being away from it during our first tournament in 6 weeks."
