Tell us about your mental health journey?
"My mental health journey started at 18 though I think from a young age I was always “different” but when I was young, I was bullied and had some type of undiagnosed mental health disorder. My family for a while kept telling me to get tested or get a therapist and I always refused to do so but was only first diagnosed with 2 out of the 5 ish i have now and 18 i finally had a life changing event that made me get tested and get help.I thought always went to therapy because the schools i attended i had help but never really was honest or was thinking i needed it.I now am 3 years into recovery and an advocate."
What do you hope to achieve as an advocate for mental health?
"I would like to achieve as an advocate maybe win some prizes but also continue to speak out in conferences, conventions,on tv or film tv,continue on podcasts and websites and speaking engagements.I also want to become a mental health public figure in sometime and also continue online and in person advocacy."
What is mental health?
"Mental health is not just mental but also physical as well what it means to me is that your mental health is taken care of like going to therapy and also going to like a doctor or dentist and you also have friends that you can go to or like trusted adults as well and for another example is a teacher or staff or trusted adult, mental health also means that you do some type of self care or put yourself first like your emotional health or like your physical health and make sure your cup is half full or see it as such and make sure your in a good mental state to help others as well like for example anxiety is not just mental it is also physical like real fear in your eyes and not just future worry but like cramps, stomach pain, nausea, you don't sleep well or eat well and also mental like excessive worry or fear and also being super withdrawn so that what it means to me."
What are some things that helped you through your mental health journey?
"Some things that have helped me with my journey is opening up and also being honest and also going to therapy as well as being myself and also journaling and playing with my pets and also driving around and also just taking it one day at a time and also doing this type of advocacy work and speaking out as well and not letting anyone dim my light or voice."
What is some advice for people that are suffering from mental health?
"Some advice i would give to people struggling is that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that therapy works with the right therapist and to be open when you are struggling and to be able to talk to people you trust when you struggle and that there is someone always willing to help and be an ear when you are struggling and that they aren't ever alone even if you feel that you are and that they matter and they they are loved."
Tell us more about your organization & podcast?
"My organization is called MHAN stands for mental health alliance network and i basically started it this year in hopes of helping people and also make them feel less alone and to show other people understand and also went through it and made it out alive and that things can always change and its not too late to get help and you can turn your life around. My podcast is called the good life podcast it's a mental health podcast talking about different things and also my story and things of that nature."
What do you want people to take in from your podcast & organization?
"I want them to take away that they aren't alone and that they come out on the other side and much stronger and that people can make it out like me and that there are people who understand and turned their pain into purpose and help people like me and stories matter and that can be someones elses survival guide and that things can change with time and heal as well and that if i can make it out so can you and there is light at the end of the tunnel and turn your pain into purpose."
What can we expect from you in 2024?
"What you can expect from me 2024 is more advocacy and more on my organization page and more episodes on my podcast and maybe a book release and still advocating on a national and international level and working with companies and going to advocacy conferences and maybe winning awards."
