This summer has been filled with reflection, growth, and a growing sense of anticipation. In just a few weeks, I’ll officially begin my freshman year at Penn State Wilkes-Barre as part of the 2+2 program—two years at a commonwealth campus, then two years at University Park. It’s a unique path, and honestly, I’m grateful for it.

Wilkes-Barre doesn’t have dorms, so I’ll be commuting from home, which is a bit different from the typical college move-in experience. But instead of seeing that as a limitation, I’ve come to view it as an opportunity: I get to ease into college life while staying close to the people and community that raised me.

This summer, I’ve kept myself busy—working, podcasting, volunteering, planning events, and doing what I love most: connecting with others. Everything I’ve been involved in this summer has reminded me how passionate I am about storytelling, media, and making a difference. And that’s exactly what I’m taking with me into this next chapter as I prepare to major in Broadcast Journalism.

I’ll be honest—there were moments I wished I was packing for a dorm or planning how to decorate my new room at University Park. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how special the 2+2 program is. It allows me to grow at my own pace, to build strong academic foundations, and to transition to State College when I’m truly ready—both as a student and a person.

The best part? I know that the journey doesn’t end after two years at Wilkes-Barre. It’s only just beginning. I have big dreams, and this path is helping me build the skills, connections, and confidence I’ll need to make them real.

So here’s to summer—the season that gave me clarity. And here’s to fall—the season that will challenge and change me. Penn State Wilkes-Barre, I’m ready. University Park, I’m coming for you soon. 💙🦁
