When I first started podcasting, I had no idea how much it would impact my life. I had a vision to create a platform where conversations about mental health, women's empowerment, and mentorship could take place in an accessible and relatable way. Over the years, podcasting has become one of the most rewarding and transformative experiences for me—both professionally and personally. Today, I want to share the behind-the-scenes journey of Talk of Fame, The Mentor Movement Podcast, and my other podcast ventures, along with the challenges, rewards, and why I believe podcasting is a powerful platform for change.
The Beginning: Talk of Fame (April 2021)
Talk of Fame was my first podcast, and it has a special place in my heart. The idea came to me after many conversations with friends and mentors about the power of shared stories. I wanted to use this platform to shed light on important issues like mental health, women's empowerment, and the obstacles we all face in life. I knew I had something valuable to offer, but I also had a lot of learning to do about podcasting.
Challenges:At first, the technical side was overwhelming. I had to learn everything from audio editing to creating engaging episode formats. There were times I felt uncertain about whether I could keep up with the commitment of producing weekly content. But every step of the way, I received encouragement from listeners and guests, which motivated me to push through.
Rewards:The most rewarding part of Talk of Fame has been the incredible guests I've had the honor of speaking with. From inspiring women like Brianne Davis and Gabrielle Stone to entrepreneurs and activists, each conversation has enriched my perspective and reminded me of the importance of vulnerability and resilience. I've learned as much from my guests as my audience has from me. The feedback from listeners about how these episodes have positively impacted their mental health and confidence is a constant reminder of why I do this.
Entering a New Chapter: The Mentor Movement Podcast (July 2024)
As my journey continued, I felt the need to create a new space for discussing mentorship across industries. The Mentor Movement Podcast was born as an extension of Empower Girls, focusing on how mentorship plays a pivotal role in our personal and professional lives. This podcast aims to inspire listeners to seek out mentors and to be mentors in turn, empowering others to achieve their dreams.
Challenges:The shift from Talk of Fame to The Mentor Movement Podcast required me to rethink my approach. This time, I had a broader audience in mind—individuals from various fields and walks of life who are looking to cultivate meaningful professional relationships. The challenge was balancing the guest selection process to ensure a diversity of industries and experiences. Additionally, working with high-profile mentors meant scheduling challenges, which sometimes made recording interviews more difficult.
Rewards:The most gratifying aspect of The Mentor Movement is hearing from listeners who have either found their own mentors or become mentors themselves because of the podcast. It's a beautiful thing when the conversations about mentorship inspire tangible action in people's lives. The connections I’ve made with professionals and thought leaders have also enriched my network, opening doors to new opportunities that I never expected.
The Power of Podcasting
Podcasting is more than just a platform—it's a movement. What makes it so powerful is its accessibility and intimacy. People are tuning in while driving, working out, or even doing household chores, and they feel like they're in the room with you. That connection is unique. As a host, you have the chance to share ideas, stories, and insights in a way that feels personal and genuine.
Through my podcasting journey, I've learned that it’s not just about talking; it’s about listening. Podcasting allows me to have real conversations with people who have incredible insights and experiences to share. It’s a way to build community, spread positivity, and amplify voices that may not otherwise be heard. Every episode has the potential to spark a conversation, ignite change, and create opportunities for growth.
Final Thoughts
Podcasting has been an incredibly rewarding journey. It’s helped me grow as a communicator, as a leader, and as an advocate for the causes I care about. The lessons I’ve learned along the way, from overcoming self-doubt to embracing the power of storytelling, have shaped the person I am today. And I’m just getting started.
If you’re considering starting your own podcast, my advice is simple: do it. Don’t be afraid of the challenges or the unknowns. Podcasting has given me a platform to help others, and in doing so, it has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. Whether you’re sharing your story or the stories of others, there’s a space for you—and the world is waiting to hear what you have to say.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.
