Oscar nominated actor Michael Lerner has passed away at the age of 81, on April 8 at a hospital in Burbank, Calif. He was known for his portrayal of mobsters, street toughs and other Hollywood heavies, notably in his Oscar-nominated performance as an imposing movie mogul in the Coen brothers’ “Barton Fink."
The cause of death was brain seizures, said his brother Ken Lerner! Throughout his career he has made 180 films and Televison in 60 years. Lerner wanted to known as a character actor and has been known to play “Cops, politicians, gangsters and Hollywood tycoons are his forte, and he’s brought a number of them to memorable life" Philip French once wrote.
The characters Michael loved to play were real life people, "“I love playing real-life people,” Mr. Lerner once told The Los Angeles Times. “It gives me a chance to become that person for a while.” The first role he played about a real-life person was " “Ruby and Oswald” about JFK's assignation in 1963 and has played more real-life characters since the movie came out in 1978.
